Wrapping up the 2012 exhibition

With around 100 local exhibitions produced every year that attract around 3.5 million visitors, the World Press Photo exhibition tour of prize-winning photographs is one of the most popular traveling photo events in the world. The exhibition season starts during the Awards Days in Amsterdam and continues its journey into the following year. In 2012, the exhibition was shown in a number of new locations such as Querétaro (Mexico), Lahore (Pakistan) and Minsk (Belarus), and it toured around the Balkan in five cities: Sarajevo and Banja Luka (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Skopje (Macedonia), Novi Sad and Belgrade (Serbia).

Anticipating the 2013 tour
In addition to the World Press Photo 13 yearbook, visitors to this year’s exhibition can enjoy a new mobile app, the  Exhibition Guide. By combining several modes of access to the World Press Photo Contest’s extensive content, World Press Photo 13 exhibition visitors can have a much richer experience, both during and after their visit, on- and offline. The app is free and available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.

Visitors to this year’s exhibition will also see more sports images and portraits, thanks to an adjustment in this year’s contest categories.

The exhibition will return after several years of absence to Doha (Qatar), Lagos (Nigeria) Lima (Peru), and Riga (Latvia) among others. To see the most up-to-date list of stops on the tour, please see the exhibition calendar: http://www.worldpressphoto.org/events

The foundation relies on local partners to bring the exhibitions to new cities, whether it be galleries, public spaces (trains stations, shopping malls), cultural centers, schools, universities sponsors, private companies, commercial enterprises or even embassies.

Michiel Munneke, managing director of World Press Photo explains: “It goes without saying that we are extremely grateful for all efforts our current partners make to present our show in their region or city. At the same time we are constantly looking for new partners to reach an even larger audience across the globe. With this powerful set of award-winning images we aim to inspire understanding of the world we all live in.”

Interested parties can contact the World Press Photo exhibition department at exhibitions@worldpressphoto.org.
