Most people do not think about their Outlook archive until they need to hand a piece of it to someone who does not use Outlook at all, a lawyer, an auditor, a new employer, or a family member sorting through old records. Datavare Software is updating its PST to PDF Converter Expert as part of a version 2.0 rollout across its conversion tool lineup, aimed partly at that exact moment.
The basic work of the tool has not changed. It continues to convert Outlook PST data, emails, contacts, calendars, tasks and attachments to PDF files that are viewable on almost any device without Outlook installed. Version 2.0 adds four changes on top of tha
- Preview option — open a PST file and browse its folders before you do a conversion, and see what’s inside before the PDFs are created
- Selective export – extract a single case folder or a handful of client threads, without processing an entire mailbox to get there
- Mac support – the tool is now native to Mac, finally delivering on a long-standing user request that previously required a work-around or separate machine; this does not include the NSF to PST converter at this time
- Redesigned interface – fewer screens from opening a file to saving the result
“PDF conversion is often a one time task for a lot of our users, often done under some kind of deadline,” said the product manager at Datavare. “That is exactly the situation where you don’t want to find out you exported the wrong folder after the fact. Letting people see the file first and choose what actually gets converted removes most of that risk.”
Datavare reports Early build users testing the update found that limiting conversions to specific folders instead of whole mailboxes cut down the average processing time by about forty percent, a difference the company credits mainly to people not converting data they didn’t need in PDF form in the first place.
The updated PST to PDF Converter Expert is now out for Windows and mac.
