Ökoprofit stands for “ÖKOlogisches PROjekt Für Integrierte Umwelt-Technik” (Ecological Project For Integrated Environmental Technology). The main goal of the program is to encourage companies to systematically implement environmentally friendly measures with a view to cutting costs. Participating companies are helped to reduce emissions and waste as well as their consumption of raw materials, energy and water, while boosting their economic efficiency at the same time. In addition, Ökoprofit promotes the use of technological innovations. The staff restaurant in Norderstedt (Lufthansa Revenue Services) was already certified in 2001.
In December 2010 LZ-Catering took part together with 15 other companies from various sectors in the initial round of the program launched by the City of Hamburg, and in 2011 was awarded the first certificates for the two Hamburg canteens operated by Lufthansa Technik and for the LZ-Catering headquarters. In March 2013, the staff restaurant in Norderstedt was recertified and the first location in the Frankfurt region, the works canteen in Neu-Isenburg (LSG Sky Chefs), was awarded the eco-seal.
Environmentally friendly processes are a key objective at LZ-Catering. In July 2012, for example, the catering specialist introduced a “climate-friendly dish” in its menus. Every Wednesday, climate-friendly food is served in the company’s certified canteens. As part of the Ökoprofit project, a number of measures were introduced at individual locations. These included exchanging traditional lamps for LEDs, switching off dishwashing machines overnight or using environmentally friendly cleaning supplies. Furthermore, the introduction of a Green Corner in canteens motivates staff to contribute creative ideas.
Workshops are held at the companies taking part in the Ökoprofit scheme with the aim of promoting cross-industry exchange. At three further on-site appointments, the company in question is assessed in order to determine which of the proposed measures are appropriate. Many of them can then be implemented during the initial phase.
