This question was the focus of the first Lufthansa Family Congress on 7th March at the Lufthansa Training & Conference Center in Seeheim. At the invitation of Dr. Bettina Volkens, Chief Officer Corporate Human Resources and Legal Affairs, around 70 employees from all areas of the Group exchanged views openly within the framework of a think-tank on all the issues and concerns associated with child care. “We want our employees to work with passion and enthusiasm for the company – and we want to create the conditions for it”, said Volkens.
At the Family Congress, the participants defined which offers from the company are useful, which should be expanded or further developed, and what new options should be offered. The Lufthansa Group already supports its employees with the most varied offers such as, for example, flexible working hours and workplace models. Emergency and childcare at external facilities during school holidays or offers of places in childcare centers are also part of everyday practice in the Lufthansa Group. Based on the findings produced at the Congress, activities will now be developed. The objective is to further increase the group’s family friendliness – also through small measures.
With the company’s own school holiday childcare programme “Luftikusse”, the Lufthansa Group last year already took a step towards improved work-life integration during the summer months. In view of the great demand, during the next summer holidays there will be a colourful and varied holiday programme for children of employees at the Frankfurt location. Among others, plans include activities at the airport and on aircraft, at Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Systems.
In February 2014, Lufthansa employees founded the association “Die Luftikusse”. The objective of the association is to develop and implement new ideas and concepts for reconciling childcare and career. It particularly focuses on the networking idea and the mutual support of members. Membership is open to any interested person who wishes to get involved in the issue of childcare.
