With more than 200 engineers and technicians dedicated to developing new technologies, the Alstom Wind global R&D centre, located in Barcelona, presented last year (April 2012-March 2013) a total of 48 European and international patents originating in Spain, 30% more than the year before.
The OBS study, which collects data from the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, reveals that in 2012, Spain requested 1,548 EPO patents (European Patent Office). Private companies were the main European patent applicants, in a ranking led by Alstom Wind, Airbus Operations and Telefonica, in that order.
“The development of new technologies in wind energy is a strategic pillar for Alstom. Research will enable us to deliver solutions helping our customers to propose efficient, reliable and sustainable energy,” said Miquel Cabre, strategy and business development director at Alstom Wind.
