Mr. Boschian-Pevero, why don’t companies protect themselves better?
Because many of them still have a false sense of security, or consider data loss to be a low-level risk. According to information from the Association of German Insurers (GDV), 94 percent of companies in Germany do not have any insurance against cyber crime.
Why are companies so vulnerable to hackers?
Nowadays, information and data are no longer saved on a few computers, isolated from the outside world: they’re part of the company network. The digital flow of information between business partners further increases the potential for an attack. The source of the danger has shifted from internal to external.
How can companies minimize damage?
Time is an important factor. Statistics suggest it takes an average of 200 days to detect that a hacker has infiltrated a company. In a world where one single click of the mouse can decide between prosperity and adversity, that constitutes an eternity. But a successful security strategy doesn’t just involve detecting intruders quickly in an emergency: it’s also about recognizing the dangers a business faces ahead of time. We have to think like hackers.
