HEINEKEN and UNIDO announce partnership to support sustainability in developing markets

The new partnership will focus mainly on water stewardship initiatives in countries and regions classified as "water-scarce". HEINEKEN inaugurates Ethiopia’s biggest brewery as part of EUR310mln investment in the country

With a total capacity of 1.5m hectolitres, the Kilinto brewery is already producing the recently launched Walia® beer together with Bedele® and Harar® beer brands. It is planned that the site will also brew other brands including the flagship Heineken® beer. Four halo Frontier briefs have been created encouraging technology innovators to submit new ideas on a number of subjects including making drinking in moderation cool and creating innovative music events. Divesting the EMPAQUE packaging operations will allow HEINEKEN to focus its resources fully on brewing, marketing and selling its world class portfolio of beer brands. In 2013 EMPAQUE generated revenue of EUR 495m (c. USD 660m), mostly intercompany, and EBITDA of EUR 96m (c. USD 130m). The 2013 EBIT (Beia) was EUR 67m (c. USD 95m).
