Equinor has installed Batwind – the world’s first battery for offshore wind

The battery storage solution was presented in Peterhead, Scotland today by Batwind partners Equinor and Masdar. Electricity produced at the world’s first floating offshore wind farm Hywind Scotland, located 25 kilometers off the coast of Peterhead, will be transported via cables to an onshore substation where the 1 MW batteries are placed and connected to the grid. On Thursday 31 May the topside for the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform sailed from the Aibel yard in Haugesund to Bømlafjorden at Stord. Here the 22,000-tonne steel structure was transferred from the barge to Pioneering Spirit, the world’s biggest heavy-lift vessel. All set for the eleven-hour journey to the jacket waiting for its topside on the Johan Sverdrup field. After initial preparations, the actual installation job took only three hours. Adding 70 million profitable barrels

Last autumn the Fram licence partners decided to invest more than NOK 1 billion in a new gas module on Troll C, and now they have decided to drill three new wells on the field for NOK 1.9 billion. The three wells will give 70 million new barrels of oil and gas, thanks to higher gas processing capacity on Troll C. The installation preparations for the gas module started early in May, and the installation work on the platform will commence in June.
