The waste was then sorted and made into floating plastic islands. The landscaped islands now serve as recreation areas for port visitors and residents. Pollution of the oceans with plastic waste is a global problem. The Audi Environmental Foundation aims to help solve this problem together with the Recycled Island Foundation. It’s estimated that around 35 percent of harvested fish and seafood is lost or wasted somewhere between when it’s caught and when it appears on your plate. As part of our Daydream Impact program, the World Wildlife Fund and Condition One brought this journey to life through a virtual reality documentary showing how fish get from Ocean to Plate. Short of actually being on a fishing boat or in a processing plant, there’s no better way to understand the fishing industry supply chain and its impact on our oceans. Scania welcomes new EU rules to curb heavy vehicles’ CO2 emissions

Scania_Vecto (1)

It is by combining the three pillars that we can move towards a sustainable transport system. Energy-efficient combustion engines will continue to play a role in the transport system of the future, running on fossil-free fuels or combined with an electric powertrain. From January, 2019, new rules will require heavy duty vehicle manufacturers in the EU to register a Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool (VECTO) value. This value is generated through the VECTO simulation tool that calculates the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from a ... Read More »

Meeting our match: Buying 100 percent renewable energy

df (1)

Google’s total purchase of energy from sources like wind and solar exceeded the amount of electricity used by our operations around the world, including offices and data centers. What do we mean by “matching” renewable energy? Over the course of 2017, across the globe, for every kilowatt hour of electricity we consumed, we purchased a kilowatt hour of renewable energy from a wind or solar farm that was built specifically for Google. This makes us the first public Cloud, and company of our size, to have achieved this feat. Today, we have c... Read More »
