- LUKOIL presented new environmental projects in Kogalym, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District. It is the fifth environmental action plan that the company is implementing within its Environmental Safety Program. The program envisages over 600 environmental protection initiatives to be completed by 2018.
Putting special emphasis on environmental protection at its offshore projects, LUKOIL pursues the zero emission principle when operating offshore platforms, ensures satellite observations, mitigates the risks of pipeline failures and advances the utilization of associated petroleum gas. Thus, the overall efficient utilization of associated gas rose from 77% to 92% across LUKOIL Group in the past five years. As of the first half of 2017, this index exceeded 94%.
The company’s integrated environmental protection system also includes a package of emergency prevention and response measures. 220 regional and international emergency response drills were held in 2016. The company established emergency rescue teams of over two thousand employees. LUKOIL has changed over 5,000 kilometers of pipelines in the past five years, using advanced corrosion-proof technologies to repair existing pipelines every year and build new ones.
Prioritizing the preservation of biodiversity, the company supports studies of Atlantic walruses in the south-east of the Barents Sea and has released over 90 million fry fish of commercial species (sturgeon, pike-perch, sterlet and pike) this year in the regions where it operates.
