Gazprom International football team wins the Gazprom Germania Cup 2013

  • The Gazprom International football team has triumphed at the annual Gazprom Germania Cup for the second year running. This year’s tournament was held on 27 July 2013 in Berlin. During the group stage the Gazprom International team topped its group with 13 points. Except for a draw against the FC Schalke 04 veterans, Gazprom International won all its matches. In addition to Schalke 04, the group included teams from the companies Gazprom Export, Gazprom Germania, Vemex (Czech Republic) and WINGAS (Germany). Twelve teams in all competed in the tournament.

The KazTransGaz and KazRosGaz teams (both from Kazakhstan) from Group A and the Gazprom International and Vemex teams from Group B reached the tournament’s semifinals. In the first semifinal the Gazprom International team beat KazRosGaz 2:1. In the other semifinal clash KazTransGaz thrashed Vemex 7:0.

The final proved a tough test for the players of both teams. In a hard-fought match Gazprom International managed to defeat KazTransGaz by the narrow margin of 1:0.

The tournament was held at Olympiastadion in Berlin, the home ground of the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC. The matches were played in difficult weather conditions at a temperature of over 35оС. A large group of supporters arrived from Berlin and Amsterdam to cheer on the Gazprom International team.

The Gazprom Germania Cup is held annually. The following teams have traditionally taken part in the tournament: Zenit FC veterans, FC Schalke 04 veterans, Gazprom Export LLC, Gazprom Germania GmbH, KazRosGaz LLP, GAZPROM Schweiz AG (Switzerland), Vemex s.r.o., Wingas GmbH, Gazprom Marketing & Trading Limited (UK), KazTransGaz JSC and Gazprom International. This year the Hertha BSC veterans team (Germany) joined in as well.
