DSM to showcase its natural health ingredient portfolio at Vitafoods 2015

Recent consumer insights reveal that demand for natural products is thriving, with global retail value sales in herbal and traditional dietary supplements now reaching US$412 million1.

Despite the push for natural, recent studies demonstrate that the majority of adults do not get the recommended intake of essential micronutrients. Natural foods are not necessarily nutrient rich, which is why fortification is important. As always, DSM will play an active role at the Vitafoods conference. First up, Professor Manfred Eggersdorfer, Senior Vice President in Nutrition Science & Advocacy at DSM, is to present ‘Could Vitamin E and DHA help delay the onset of dementia?’ at 11:00 am on 6th May. The second presentation, ‘Hydroxytyrosol: A synergist for glucosamine and chondroitin’ by Marc Plaum, Innovation Project Manager at DSM, will focus on bone and joint health. DSM will also hold a seminar on ‘A natural, ingredient-orientated, multi-faceted approach to the maintenance of healthy heart function’, presented by Dr Rob Winwood at 11:05 am on 6th May, in the Exhibitor Theater.

Visitors to the stand can try a variety of finished products made from natural ingredients. These include a healthy natural drink providing benefits for skin, hair and nails from DSM’s Nourish your Beauty platform, natural vitamin E capsules supporting a variety of health benefits including reducing the risk of the negative health implications of fatty liver, elaVidaTM capsules and OatWell® sticks. DSM is also hosting an OatWell® breakfast networking event at 10:00-11:00 am on both 5th and 6th May, which will share the latest science behind the importance of starting each day with adequate consumption of essential nutrients. OatWell® can help achieve a natural health positioning in cereals, baked goods and smoothies, all commonly consumed at breakfast while allowing manufacturers to make approved health claims. Visitors can then end the day by joining DSM for its happy hour on stand from 16:00, taking place on both 5th and 6th May.
